Hoodwinked

Hoodwinked

Cast: Glenn Close, Anne Hathaway, James Belushi, Patrick Wartburton, Anthony Anderson
Director: Cory Edwards, Todd Edwards
Gene: Animation.

Another as usual three-dimensional computer-generated animation, the movie Hoodwinked is a repetition of the same old Little Red Riding Hood, but with some added humor.

The movie borrows heavily from Shrek and Fletch, and features the Big Bad Wolf, an undercover agent with fake names and a Lakers jersey.

The movie is the newest of the never-ending series of animations using Rashomon-style storytelling to explain its complicated comic mystery from a variety of perspectives.

From a critic's perspective, Hoodwinked lacks an original idea but kids might be entertained by the colorful aesthetics and nonstop energy of Twitchy, the over stimulated squirrel, the Wolf's overzealous photographer. But bad luck for adults, the script's real target, the film is stale, mediocre and irrelevant.

However, what critics say doesn't matter when it comes to family films. If you are going to see this movie together, it might not be such an overall bad experience, especially when the pleasure of your kids is concerned.
